, our 2018听听keynote speaker, has written fiction for children, middle-grade books, adult novels and a work of nonfiction. A thread of magic runs through many of them, but her latest is quite a departure from its predecessors. Titled听听(Adams, 2018), it’s a collection of 14 original fairy tales about heroines who overcome obstacles with the aid of a magical garment or accessory. The stories are accompanied by imaginative photographs that illustrate each story and feature one of the knitted creations of master knitter Lisa Hoffman.
And should readers yearn for their own Blue Heron Shawl, Amulet Necklace or Three Wishes Mittens, all they have to do is follow the knitting instructions provided.
As Alice Hoffman said, “How fairy tales are told and remembered has a great deal in common with knitting traditions. It is no mistake that we describe storytelling as knitting a tale, or weaving a story or spinning a yarn.”
At 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, the day before the Legends Dinner, the two Hoffmans will be at the Book Revue in Huntington, New York, to听听of their new book.
