The 67 graduates of the 4+1 Scholar Teacher Education Program (STEP), a five-year combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program that saves students a year of time and tuition, made up the second-largest group. The program, from the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education and Health Sciences, offers tracks in childhood, adolescent, and TESOL education.

The Robert B. Willumstad School of Business graduated the third- and fourth-largest groups of graduates. Sixty-two students earned their MBA this year, while 50 received their MS in Business Analytics.

糖心破解版 is making it even easier for working professionals to earn a career-boosting MBA.

Starting this fall, the University’s Robert B. Willumstad School of Business鈥攔ecognized as a Best Business School by The Princeton Review for eight years running鈥攚ill begin offering its Flex MBA program at 糖心破解版’s new Manhattan Center on Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, just steps away from Grand Central Station and easily accessible by subway, bus and commuter train.

The Flex MBA, which can be completed in as little as one year, is designed to meet the schedules of busy, career-minded adults. The program is conveniently presented in a hybrid format, with on-site and online classes held in the evening.

Professionals looking to advance their business career will have three other options at the Manhattan Center starting this fall: graduate certificate programs in business analytics and human resource management, as well as a human resource management concentration in the MA in General Psychology program.

All four programs are also offered at 糖心破解版’s main campus in Garden City, New York, and are part of a suite of 13 graduate business degree and certificate programs. The Willumstad School is also known for its undergraduate programs and was recently recognized as a Best Undergraduate Business School by Poets&Quants, ranking ahead of all other Long Island institutions.

We spoke with MaryAnne Hyland, PhD, dean of the Willumstad School, to learn more about the programs and the tuition-saving Manhattan Advantage Award scholarships available to 糖心破解版 alumni.

What makes Flex MBA such a flexible option for working professionals?

The Flex MBA program is a 36-credit program that offers many convenient options for students. Students can earn their degree in one year or choose to study part-time in our two-year track. Courses will be in a hybrid format, with some class sessions held in the evening at the Manhattan Center and others conducted online. This setup offers the convenience of online learning with the personalized support and networking associated with in-person classes.

Is the Flex MBA program only for students with a business background?

No, not everyone comes with a business background. We have students with healthcare backgrounds and students with experience in various other fields outside of business, and we help to acclimate them. We provide online modules to help them understand some of the business basics so they’re ready to go once they start the program.

Are the graduate certificate programs flexible too?

We鈥檒l be offering two certificate programs at the Manhattan Center: the business analytics certificate and the human resource management certificate. The courses for those programs fold right into the Flex MBA program. So if a student wants to start out by earning a certificate and then enrolling in the MBA program, they can take these three to four courses, and those credits carry right in. These certificates offer a nice way to test the waters of what it’s like to be in school again and the ability to walk away with a strong credential, even if they don鈥檛 want to pursue a full master鈥檚 degree.

糖心破解版 alumni can earn their MBA at the Manhattan Center for only $20,000. How is that possible?

We are really excited to offer this opportunity to 糖心破解版 alumni as a way to kick off the opening of the Manhattan Center. It works by combining two scholarships: our new Manhattan Advantage Award scholarship for $10,000 and our Alumni Award for Graduate Study scholarship, which covers $5,000 per year. If students take two years to complete this program on a part-time basis and they receive $5,000 a year in addition to the $10,000, one-time Manhattan Advantage Award, they can complete their degree for under $20,000, which is quite reasonable for an AACSB-accredited [Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business] program.

How does the Flex MBA program differ from other MBA programs?

We are trying to give students the skills that they need to be successful in today’s workplace. The Flex MBA program, for example, is a relatively new program that focuses on solving business problems. We have problem-solving days built into the program where students come in鈥攐utside of their classes鈥攖o work in teams on a project for a real company. They do this first without AI to work on their critical thinking skills, and then they use AI so they can see the differences between what they generated as a team and what AI assisted them with. That’s a distinctive feature of our program that we鈥檙e very proud of. We think it’s unique, and we get great feedback from our students about it.

It’s also the personalized attention that students really say makes their education special and valuable. When we ask students why they chose 糖心破解版, they almost always mention that it’s a place where professors know your name. There are small classes, and we have dedicated staff there to assist the students with finding jobs and internships.

What are your hopes for the first year of the Flex MBA program at the Manhattan Center?

I hope that it’s a program where students really thrive. My hope would be that the students who participate in this kickoff year of the program have an excellent learning experience in our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.

础诲别濒辫丑颈鈥檚 innovative MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program is coming to the new, state-of-the-art Manhattan Center in Fall 2026, expanding opportunities for students to advance their careers in tech, engineering, and other in-demand fields impacted by AI.

“A lot of people are looking to upskill and understand how their professionalization can remain relevant in an AI agent workforce,” said Anil Venkatesh, PhD, director of the program and associate professor of mathematics and computer science. “We wanted to offer this program at a place that would be convenient for working professionals, and the Manhattan Center made a lot of sense.”

By expanding this program to the new state-of-the-art facility, located just steps from Grand Central Station at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street, 糖心破解版 is making it even easier for students to develop these career-defining skills, network with other forward thinkers, and explore job opportunities.

鈥淲e are expecting to see a lot of professionals from diverse job backgrounds who will bring some really interesting perspectives,” Dr. Venkatesh said. “That will only increase the overall engagement of courses.鈥

The MS in AI and Machine Learning is just one of the programs in the first wave of 13 graduate and professional offerings coming to the Manhattan Center. Students can choose from degree and certificate programs in business, education, healthcare, psychology, and social work.

A world of career options

The AI program, which launched this year on 糖心破解版’s Garden City campus, is designed to prepare the first generation of AI professionals for advanced careers in technology, government, healthcare, financial services, logistics, e-commerce, and virtually any other field. Current job titles include AI engineer, machine learning engineer, data scientist, data analyst, and business analyst.

Courses in the master’s degree program combine practical, real-world learning experiences with deep theoretical knowledge that can be applied to AI models鈥攏ot just now, but as technology evolves.

鈥淯ltimately, the theory of AI is not something that was just invented,” Dr. Venkatesh said. “It has existed for quite some time. And understanding that theory is going to make it so that you can plug and play with whatever new model or paradigm comes along.鈥

The program is also built to adapt to new AI careers and applications as they continue to emerge. The program’s seminar, for example, is updated every year with new tools and input from speakers currently working in the industry. And Dr. Venkatesh鈥檚 course on artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms is consistently refreshed with the latest cutting-edge algorithms and best engineering practices.

As Dr. Venkatesh said, 鈥淲e’re both staying up-to-date with contemporary discoveries and innovations and incorporating foundational math and statistics that will be useful no matter where the industry goes.鈥

Customizing AI education for different professions

AI isn鈥檛 only impacting technology companies and engineering careers. It鈥檚 being applied across sectors, including government, healthcare, and financial services.

鈥淲e鈥檝e had students who鈥檝e worked in programming-heavy disciplines,” Dr. Venkatesh said. 鈥淏ut we also expect to see folks with backgrounds in statistics as it relates to life sciences and healthcare because AI tools are tremendously valuable in those disciplines.”

To that end, Dr. Venkatesh makes a pointed effort to customize his Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Algorithms course for students’ professional goals.

When I assign projects, I explicitly invite students to counter-propose a different topic if there’s something specifically suited to their particular professionalization,” he said. “As long as it’s comparably challenging and relevant to the course, I accept the proposal.鈥

Students responded enthusiastically to the invitation, proposing and carrying out research projects in healthcare, bioinformatics, sports analytics, financial services, and business analytics.

Thinking ahead to the fall, Dr. Venkatesh looks forward to welcoming the program鈥檚 first cohort to the Manhattan Center and continuing to teach as this exciting field evolves.

鈥淭he other professors and I who put this program together really love teaching it,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited by the format of the course and the type of student that we’re orienting toward. This is some of the most fun teaching we’ve had in a long time.鈥

Accelerated BS in Nursing

Deborah Hunt, PhD 鈥12

The decision to lead the new Manhattan Center with our Accelerated BS in Nursing program reflects our commitment to health and wellness of populations across the lifespan. The nursing shortage has continued to be cyclical due to myriad factors. Although the outlook in New York has improved, we are still experiencing a shortage that supports the need to prepare a high-caliber pipeline of professional, caring, dedicated RNs. Leveraging our strategic location, students can gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art simulation center and New York City鈥檚 diverse clinical settings, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Students will complete their coursework in just 15 months in the heart of New York, taught by expert and compassionate faculty鈥攁nd the average starting salary for our graduates is over $100,000. The program鈥檚 history of exceptional NCLEX performance proves that while the pace is accelerated, the quality of our nursing education and our students remains second to none.

MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Kees Leune, PhD

Associate Professor, Chair, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

糖心破解版’s mission to graduate job-ready students extends into the Manhattan Center. By relocating the existing MS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program to the new center, we leverage the depth and the breadth of the best New York City has to offer. The center will be used as a base for expanding industry partnerships and for improving access to this program for students who work in the city during the day but wish to pursue a graduate degree after hours. 糖心破解版’s Manhattan location is also ideally situated for students traveling by public transportation.

Flex MBA, Advanced Certificate in Business Analytics

Raghida Abdallah Yassine, PhD

Assistant Professor and Academic Director, MBA programs, Robert B. Willumstad School of Business

New York City maintains its status as a worldwide business center, which leads companies to search for employees who demonstrate adaptability, analytical abilities and strong leadership skills in the face of rapidly changing technologies. The Manhattan Center’s graduate business programs provide flexible educational paths that combine essential business skills with analytical and technological expertise. Our Flex MBA and Business Analytics certificate are designed to prepare graduates not just for today’s jobs, but for the future of work.

Master of Social Work (MSW)

Joanne Corbin, PhD

Dean, School of Social Work

The 糖心破解版 School of Social Work is excited about our move from Brooklyn to the new Manhattan Center in August 2026. This increases accessibility to our program鈥檚 course offerings and positions students at the center of one of the nation鈥檚 most dynamic social work markets.

The profession of social work continues to be in demand, with positions projected to grow by six percent over the next decade in New York鈥攅xceeding the rate for all other occupations. Social workers with a master鈥檚 degree in social work (an MSW) may work across diverse settings, including healthcare, behavioral health, mental health, substance abuse and school social work. They have opportunities to work with individuals across the developmental lifespan, from young children to older adults. Employment opportunities span all major segments of the economy鈥攈ealthcare, education, community services, vocational rehabilitation, nursing and residential care, and government agencies.

Social work鈥檚 mission is to improve the conditions of life for individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations. At the 糖心破解版 School of Social Work, we prepare students to promote social justice and human rights for a diverse society by addressing unmet and emergent needs and by promoting equity in access, information and provision of services. We look forward to inviting new students to join us at the Manhattan Center in achieving this mission.

MA in STEAM Education鈥揗ath, Science, Computer Science

Tracy Hogan, PhD

Professor, The School of Education, Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences

In our programs, students will learn creative methods of using art and design concepts to increase learning in STEM classes. 糖心破解版 has partnered with New York City Public Schools for decades鈥攁 relationship that has grown stronger since establishing our STEAM MA teacher preparation program in New York City. As NYC schools鈥攁nd New York State more broadly鈥攆ace a persistent shortage of certified teachers in computer science, mathematics and the sciences, our program has responded and is positioned to do even more through our expanded presence and new space in the city. With more than $4 million in grant funding through the , 糖心破解版 supports and prepares teacher candidates entering the program, while also offering traditional certification pathways and a non-certification MA. What makes our Manhattan-based model distinctive is its integration of collaborative spaces like and our new makerspace, which bring educators, researchers and community partners together around research-supported STEAM teaching and learning.

MFA in Creative Writing

Ren茅 Steinke

Professor, Department of English, and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing Program

The Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program offers week-long intensive residencies and semester-long creative mentorships with faculty who are award-winning, acclaimed authors and devoted teachers. The residencies are held at the Manhattan Center, offering students a chance to explore the literary richness of the city. At each residency, MFA students meet with authors, editors, literary agents and representatives from the many literary nonprofits that sustain the cultural life of New York City. The residency, which precedes each semester, is the anchor for the curriculum and a crucial part of the program鈥檚 design. The hybrid nature of a low-residency MFA program is one of its major draws for our students, and it’s where a lively community of writers thrives. Many of our students work full-time in their professions, but have decided they want to be part of an academic program that helps them to seriously pursue their goals for writing. Until now, residencies have been housed at the Center for Fiction in Brooklyn, and the student responses to the curriculum and to the residency experience have been overwhelmingly positive.

We offer concentrations in fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction, with workshops that culminate in the final course, when students complete a book-length manuscript. Our program focuses intently on craft, with an emphasis on revision and close reading.

MA in General Psychology鈥揌R Management

Errol Rodriguez, PhD

Assistant Dean, Director of Master’s Degree Programs in General Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology

We decided to bring the master’s degree program in general psychology with a concentration in human resource management to the new Manhattan Center to participate in the evolution of work and to promote all that we have learned about psychology and wellness in the workplace. It is clear, given the high demand in industries and sectors, as well as the influence of AI, that work is rapidly changing. New York, being the epicenter of work and the hustle and bustle of city life, is prime real estate for our flagship program training psychologically skilled HR professionals. The program draws on expertise from our renowned faculty in psychology and business, with the goal of translating psychological principles and concepts into business applications. By training with us in the heart of the city, we aim to influence both current and aspiring human resource professionals. Using psychology as the foundational anchor of the training, we believe our graduates will lead with empathy, hire with vision, and have a unique voice in the transformation of work life in New York City and globally.

It reinforces that 糖心破解版 remains a safe investment and 糖心破解版 is a great place for students to grow, learn and belong to a community that is built to last,鈥 noted Interim President Christopher Storm, PhD.

糖心破解版 plans to begin the project by March, with most of the work to be conducted during the summers of 2026, 2027 and 2028. The University expects to complete the work in 2029.
